# Use the IntelliJ plugin

Install the SHAFT plugin, open the tool window, and finish setup.

# Use the IntelliJ plugin

For IntelliJ IDEA. The result is the SHAFT tool window open and setup verified. An AI agent connection is optional.

## Steps

1. Install the SHAFT plugin from JetBrains Marketplace, or install a ZIP and restart if the IDE asks.
2. Open **Tools | SHAFT | Open SHAFT**.
3. In **Set up SHAFT tools**, let Prerequisites detect Python 3, Java, and Maven. Use **Open in Terminal** for anything missing, then **Recheck**.
4. Choose a setup route only if you want an agent. **Open setup command in terminal**, review the command, and press Enter yourself. The plugin does not run the installer.
5. **Verify setup** until it reports the SHAFT tools it needs.
